Fabrication and application of functional structures based on the interaction of laser light with matter
In the past, laser processing was used for cutting and welding materials, and in recent years its applications have diversified to include 3D modeling technology and micro texturing of surfaces. When a laser beam is irradiated onto a material, complex interfacial phenomena occur due to the interaction between the laser beam and the material. These include the instantaneous melting and evaporation of materials due to the vibration of electrons, and molecules the generation of plasma, and so on. By controlling these interfacial phenomena, it is possible to control not only the fabrication of fine and complex structures but also the chemical reactions that occur at the processing interface.
In this laboratory, we are seeking to establish technology for fabricating high-value-added functional structures by utilizing the interfacial phenomena that occur during laser processing. The created structures contribute to the development of various functions such as thermal control, antibacterial, and water repellency.
